  • The Sierra Norte of Puebla is one of Mexico’s most enchanting coffee-growing regions, with the towns of Cuetzalan and Zacapoaxtla standing out as key players in the area’s coffee culture. These high-altitude regions, rich with misty forests and volcanic soil, provide ideal growing conditions for coffee. The cool, temperate climate allows the cherries to mature slowly, developing deep, complex flavors.

The region is also known for its vibrant indigenous culture, particularly in Cuetzalan, where coffee farming is intertwined with the traditional way of life. Many farms are small, family-owned operations that prioritize sustainability and the preservation of the natural environment. Coffee plants are often grown in the shade of native trees, promoting biodiversity and creating a harmonious ecosystem that supports both the coffee and the surrounding wildlife.

Coffee from this region has a distinct flavour profile, with bright acidity and notes of honey, citrus, and subtle spices. As more specialty coffee roasters discover the unique offerings from Cuetzalan and Zacapoaxtla, the Sierra Norte is gaining recognition for its exceptional quality and the dedication of its farmers. Each cup of coffee from this region is a reflection of the land’s natural beauty and the farmer’s commitment to producing coffee that honours the traditions of Puebla.

Thanks to Covoya for this delicious coffee and the farm information!
